U.S. citizens and permanent residents enrolled at least half time (in at least 200 units) who are completing preparatory coursework necessary to apply for admission to a medical graduate program may request a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan of up to $12,500. The actual amount awarded is based on tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Students may be eligible to receive the loan for up to 12 consecutive months of preparatory coursework.
In addition to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), students must complete the Pre-Med Preparatory Coursework Loan Request form. Students must list the courses in which they will enroll and have their academic adviser or an authorized individual from their department confirm the necessary preparatory courses and sign the certification.
