To apply for need-based financial aid at the University of Chicago, you will submit a few documents that allow us to accurately review your family’s financial situation. If you are only interested in applying for federal student aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is all that is required. To apply for UChicago's institutional aid, including our grant-based financial aid, submit the FAFSA as well as the University of Chicago Financial Aid Worksheet and a copy of your tax returns from the previous year.
Because each financial aid package is tailored to a family’s particular financial profile, we review these documents on a case-by-case basis. Although you may apply for financial aid at any time, we recommend that you apply for aid when you apply for admission in order to receive an aid decision in a timely manner.
The information on this page is for U.S. citizens or permanent residents applying for aid. Non-U.S. applicants can find information on the international financial aid page.

Download the required document cover sheet for prospective students and submit documents via fax or by mail. Please include the student's first and last name, email address, and date of birth on the top of the first page of any document you submit.

|* Applying for federal financial aid requires submitting only the FAFSA. We strongly encourage all families to submit the FAFSA as well as the UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet and tax returns in order to maximize their funding options.|
|** Families who have already completed the College Board’s CSS Profile may submit this instead of the UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet. Please note that it is necessary to submit only one (not both) of these documents, that both contain all of the information we need to fully evaluate students for our institutional financial aid, and that UChicago’s Financial Aid Worksheet is free to submit while the CSS Profile requires a submission fee.|
If you wish to apply for only federal aid (Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Federal Perkins Loans, Federal Stafford Loans, or Federal PLUS Loans for parents) complete only the FAFSA and email College Aid to confirm you have completed your application.
If you wish to apply for both federal and need-based UChicago financial aid, complete the UChicago Financial Aid Worksheet and the FAFSA and submit last year's tax returns. UChicago’s Financial Aid Worksheet may be completed in the student’s UChicago Account.
You will need to use the school code provided above as well as your Social Security number while completing the FAFSA in order to ensure that we receive your application.
Please use this form to notify us of any special financial circumstances that will not be addressed in your financial aid application materials. Unfortunately, we cannot make allowances for all special circumstances, but want to know more about your financial situation.
To complete your application for UChicago financial aid, you may be asked to provide us with other required information. The most efficient method to provide this information is to directly upload documents via your UChicago Account. Note: not all financial aid documents can be submitted by this method. Please log into your UChicago account to review the documents which can be uploaded.
Non-Custodial or Divorced Parent Information
We do not require additional information from students’ non-custodial parent. In cases where students’ parents are divorced or separated, provide financial information from the parent who has primary custody of or contributes more than 50% of the student’s financial support.

Having trouble sending your fax?
If you are using Voice of Internet Protocol (VOIP), try adjusting the following configuration settings:
- Slow down the transmission speed. Set the BAUD rate of the fax machine to 9600 bps or lower (7200 bps would be the next slower setting).
- Turn off or disable ECM (error correction mode) setting, usually the default, that many fax machines have.
